Living, Lasting Love

People have "fallen into it," "caught it" at first sight, and occasionally "kindled it" by their own effort. It's apparently warm and fuzzy and pink and free. Convenience stores capitalize on its presence, while families claim to present it best. It's displayed by a kiss from Grandma or a hug from Mom and Dad. Some say it's a feeling; others know it's a choice.

The reality is that one can find it almost anywhere, yet it's altogether lacking in our world today. People claim it, share it, long for it, and abuse it. "What is it that we possess in portions but still need more of?" you may ask. It's LOVE in this world. Real. Genuine. Christ-like. LOVE.

While cards and candy bring comfort and temporary contentment, perfect love comes from our Lord Jesus Christ whose death on the cross of Calvary outdoes any other display of affection possible from man. Think about His love . . .

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." - John 3:16

"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." - Romans 5:8

Love is more than a showy, dramatic expression directed toward a friend or significant other. Love is of God. Our love as Christians can be genuine only when our love is rooted in Christ's higher love. Now there's something to think about!
