It Is the Little Things that Count
Sometimes the biggest life lessons come from the most unlikely situations. I learned this during my first semester after about two weeks of having an assigned chapel seat. Each day I would come in later than all the guys in the row, and upon seeing me, as all gentlemen do, they would stand to let a lady to her seat. Although they did this willingly, I felt terrible inconveniencing them this way when in reality, as I had seen other guys do, they could stay seated if they wanted to.
Finally one day I asked my chapel buddy why they do this. He looked at me with a polite smile, almost as though he had thought about this before. He shrugged his shoulders, suggesting it was no big deal, and replied, “It’s the little things that count.”
I had sat in a row of gentlemen, and gentlemen stand for ladies. It is a small thing, but it shows a girl the difference between the gentleman and every other guy. It is a small thing but makes a big difference. Truly, “It’s the little things that count.”
