Prayer within Borders

Welcome back, fellow prayer warriors in the making, to another prayer post! This week, instead of praying for the world, I would like to focus our attention on one country in particular–our own.

Now, just in case you haven't been keeping up with the news recently, America has some pretty big challenges that it's facing right now. It seems that on just about every front, Christianity is being ignored, scoffed at, or attacked. With so many assaults against our faith, it can be easy to sit back and wonder if there is anything we can do to help save our country. Well, there is!

The key to saving our nation can be found in 2 Chronicles 7:14. In this verse, God declares:

"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."

Prayer is our most powerful weapon. If we are willing to utilize it, we are unlocking our greatest asset in helping save America. And here at PCC, we are given a fantastic opportunity to do just this. So without further ado, let me introduce you to Homefront.

Just as its name suggests, Homefront provides a unique opportunity for students to learn about current religious and moral issues our nation is facing and pray for them. Each week, Josiah Shade, the current president of Homefront, presents a different prayer focus. Topics include prayer for government officials, the education system, police, churches and pastors, the military, and so many other important issues.

When I asked Josiah why Homefront was important to him, he explained:

"I used to be fed up with the apathy in America. In my mind, worldwide missions was a lot easier to be passionate about. But then I started attending Homefront, and God touched my heart and gave me a whole new perspective on America. Rather than thinking of this nation as a lost cause, I began to see it as a land desperately in need of God's providence."

He further went on to say:

"If you look at the history of revival, it was always founded upon prayer. So often we say that we want revival, but then our passion stops there. Homefront helps keep that passion alive. Revival starts with small groups and branches out into towns, states, and eventually the nation!"

Josiah's exactly right! In order to bring about national revival, we have to begin somewhere. On our knees is the best place to start. So I encourage you to take time to pray for our country. It needs your prayers desperately, and as God promised, if we do humble ourselves and pray for Him to heal our land, He will!
