One Day at a Time

"Just take it one day at a time.”

That is the wisdom I got from my mother on Sunday when I gave her a call. I had a midterm on Monday and had been studying all day. I gave her the report of all the exams, projects, and papers I had due for the entire week. The list was extremely lengthy, and it was hard to imagine how I’d find time to get everything done. However, I’ve purposed in my heart to lay each day before the Lord and rely on Him to grant me peace and new mercies every morning. (Lamentations 3:21-23) For, I know that “with men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26)

Don’t allow yourself to get overwhelmed by borrowing trouble from an up-coming day. Instead, think on these verses which I’ve gathered from chapel messages and Sunday school recently. Allow them to encourage you when you’re overwhelmed with midterms, finals, finances, health, or anything else.

  • There is a limitless supply of strength available to those who ask for it from the One “who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance.” – Isaiah 40:12
  • “From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.... So will I sing praise unto thy name for ever, that I may daily perform my vows.” – Psalm 61:2,8
  • And, remember to praise God and share with others when you see even the smallest of victories. “I will sing of the mercies of the LORD forever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations.” – Psalm 89:1
