College Life Growth

Charity Suffereth Long

College is one of those transitional times in life when you get to meet so many new people! You might know one or two people from your church when you get here, or you might have come for College Days and already have a lot of friends. But whether you know someone before you get here or not, it's completely different when you start seeing the same friends every day.

One of the things God has been teaching me is how to have true Biblical love for others. I've started studying through 1 Corinthians 13, and I've realized just how much work I have to do. Before I really looked at the passage, I generally thought I was a pretty loving person. I have lots of friends. I'm not usually that mean to them. But the first thing verse I came to was 1 Corinthians 13:4 which says, "Charity suffereth long:" At first, I was like, okay, love is patient. Got it. But then I took a deeper look into it. Patient love means putting others first and yourself last. It is selfless love.

I want to encourage you this semester to take the time to see how Biblical love acts throughout God's Word. Whether it's being patient with your roommates or taking the time to drive someone to the store, pray that God will give you the opportunity to learn true love for a new friend this year. With meeting so many new people, it's a great way to learn Biblical love and to make lasting friendships.
