Eagles Rebound for Home Finale!

A week ago, the Eagles fell to the Clearwater Cougars 66-75, snapping a seven game winning streak and eliminating the team's chance to shatter PCC's all-time winning record.  The loss dropped the Eagles' record to 18-9.  The defeat stung, not only because Clearwater is PCC's long-time rival, but because the Eagles beat Clearwater earlier in the year at their own place.  This time around, the Eagles were not able to get it done--even with thousands of screaming Eagles fans sporting white clothing to PCC's annual "White-out."

The Eagles struggled from the start, spotting the Cougars a quick double-digit lead.  Despite the slow start, the team mounted an inspiring comeback.  Matt Goetsch led the scoring effort with 15 points, accompanied by solid guard play by David Cratty (11 points).  Adam Pahlsson was a monster at the boards once again, nabbing 10 rebounds and scoring 8 points on second and third efforts.

Trailing 33-37 at halftime, the Eagles seemed poised to take the lead and snatch the victory.  But spotty defense, lackluster rebounding, and missed shots really hurt the outcome.  The Eagles posted a paltry 23-68 (33.8%) field goal percentage and they were 5-20 (25.0%) beyond the arc.  The Cougars, in comparison, shot 44.8% from the field and 46.7% from the three-point line.

The Eagles improved those numbers when they defeated Florida Christian College on Saturday night, 77-75.  The victory owed itself to stellar performances by a myriad of Eagles, including bench players.  One of those notable displays was given by Vic Johnson.  He jolted the crowd with an electrifying performance off the bench, coming into the game and nailing smooth jump shots and 3-pointers.  He played strong on defense and manned the boards with a crucial rebound and put-back.

The team will be counting on another strong performance by Johnson and others when they host Huntingdon College at the Sports Center Arena at 7:30 P.M. this Tuesday night.  Since this Tuesday night's game is the last home game of the season, make sure you come out to support your Eagles--this will be the last time you will get to see the senior starters in action.  We owe them a big thanks for a great season and a memorable year. So come out, cheer loud, and cheer often! Go Eagles!
