Things to Do

My Trip down the Mighty Coldwater

Saturday was the canoe trip student outing. Also national Pi Day (like  3.14… the mathematical sign). Also my birthday! So in other words, Saturday was a pretty exciting day for me.

Each semester, there are several student outing opportunities. Some of these include a dolphin cruise, a trip to the local Gulfarium, a Blue Wahoos baseball game, and of course, the canoe outing. Now, the canoe outing is one of my favorite things that I've done since I've been in college.

I've been several times, each time different, but still tons of fun. The weather could not have been more perfect for this canoe trip. It had rained all week here in Pensacola, so all of my friends had been praying for good weather for our trip. And it was beautiful! Not too hot, definitely not too cold, and a steady wind to ensure that we didn't get too warm.

This canoe trip goes down twelve miles of the Coldwater River that flows through the panhandle of Florida. This part of the river is perfect for a leisurely float down in a canoe. It doesn't take much effort at all to paddle down those twelve miles. Well, at least I don't think it does. You see, my friend Jeff and I have a system worked out for canoeing. He does all the paddling, and I throw food to him. It works out great.

This semester, I brought candy, cashews, and raisins. We found out that raisins, once you smoosh two or three together, fly surprisingly well. Not only did I throw food to Jeff, but we also became quite proficient at throwing our candy to our friends' canoes around us. My friends are very talented at catching food in their mouths, let me tell you.

Here are a few pictures from our trip down the mighty Coldwater. Be sure to add the canoe trip to your PCC bucket list--you won't regret it!
