Things to Do

Guitars Make That Noise?

We're just a few days away from midterms, and I feel like the semester is flying by. One of the highlights of the semester just passed, though, on Valentine's Day. And no, Valentine's Day is not one of the highlights of my semester, although any holiday that involves candy isn't too bad. What happened on Valentine's Day was more exciting. PCC hosted the Georgia Guitar Quartet as the latest Fine Arts performance. The Georgia Guitar Quartet is a group of incredible musicians who play . . . well, the guitar. One of their specialties is taking classical music written for pianos, orchestras, and other instruments and arranging it for a guitar quartet. The result is a unique and captivating sound that I'd never heard before.

Now when I heard that this Fine Arts was going to be a guitar quartet, I was excited, but I didn't really know what to expect. So, in true Fine Arts fashion, I got got all dressed up, my friends got all dressed up, we took some pictures to send to our moms, and we headed over to the Crowne Centre for the night's performance. It turns out that I don't know very much about guitars, because these talented musicians used their guitars to make sounds that I did not know guitars could make. At times, I was sure that there was a piano being played somewhere on the stage, but it was still the guitar.

I always especially enjoy the musical Fine Arts performances, and this was no exception. The next Fine Arts performance will be held at the end of the semester when PCC's faculty and students put on Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. I'm looking forward to seeing another great Fine Arts performance!
