The Big, Not-so-Bad Finals
Finals. The mere mention of the word strikes fear into the hearts of all who hear it.
Or, maybe not. I’ll be the first to admit that finals do seem rather daunting, but I also find a few comforting elements to them.
First of all, since most finals are cumulative, the review material on them seems almost like an old friend. Those key facts you learned on the first day of class have only appeared on three quizzes, two unit tests, AND the midterm. By the time you see them again on the final, it’s nice to see a familiar question in the midst of new material.
Also, finals are long. Some people think it’s a bad thing when they see a 100+ question exam, but to me, I just see an opportunity to get credit for the information I know. You can miss ten whole questions on a one-hundred question test and still make an A! That doesn’t sound too bad.
Third, finals bring a sense of completion to the semester. Sometimes I walk away from a final shouting hallelujah that I don’t ever have to worry about that material again. But other times, I feel accomplished knowing that I made it through a class that everyone said would be “the hardest class ever.” (People will say that about any class, so I’ve learned.)
Finally, the absolute best thing about finals is that there are no regular classes during exam week. You don’t have to worry about turning in projects, doing homework, or anything else. You have one job to do, and that’s to ace those finals . . .or something like that. Piece of cake, right?
Keep it up for just a few more days, and you will be finished before you know it!
