A Little Advice for the Incoming Freshman
Going to college is an exciting time! You will meet many new people, have new experiences, be introduced to things you never even knew existed, and be given opportunities that will grow you and make you into a better person. While some might be nervous about going to college, it is not scary at all! But in case you are a little intimidated by the thought of leaving home, or maybe you are just looking for some extra pointers before heading off to school, here are four tips to keep in mind as you come to college.
1. First and foremost: BE YOU! Someone once said, “Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken.” And it is true! Don’t try to be someone you are not just to fit in or so that people will like you. Just be yourself, and you are sure to find friends that will love you for you who are.
2. GET INVOLVED. There are so many opportunities to get involved here at PCC. Whether you are into sports, acting, or even writing, there is something for everyone! Christian service is another great way to get out of your comfort zone, try new things, meet new people, and be a blessing to others all at once. I personally have grown so much and met many people by simply being myself and getting involved.
3. HAVE FUN. You are at college, so have fun! Where else can you go that has a water park, bowling alleys, a rock wall, ice skating, and your friends, all in one place? While I know that we come to college to get an education, there is so much to learn while having fun with friends. So step away from the textbooks every once in a while, get out there, and have fun!
4. Don’t forget to STUDY. With all the fun things there are here to do, don't lose sight of your primary goal for being here! When you look back on your college career, you do not want to have regrets over not doing your best. One person said it this way: “Do your best and let God do the rest.” Do your best in all of your studies, and you can rest assured that God will carry you through, regardless of the outcome.
I have loved spending the past two years of my life here at PCC. Looking back, it is awesome to see how God has grown me and changed me to be better equipped for His service. While you might be just an incoming freshman now, you'll blink, and before you know it, you'll be a junior, too. By then, you'll be able to pass on your own advice to future freshmen!
