Saving Lives, Fighting Crime, or…Typing?

I’m going to be completely honest. Office Administration was not a major that I ever saw myself pursuing. I was the little girl who wanted to be a princess, a veterinarian, or a spy. I just didn’t see myself typing and staring at a computer screen, but God’s ways are not always our ways. I spent many nights without a peace while majoring in other areas.

God kept bringing Office Administration to my mind, and I shut it out because I was “too adventurous” for that. I had already tried to pursue Nursing and Criminal Justice because I wanted to save lives or fight crime, but God didn't give me a peace about studying those majors. At the beginning of my sophomore year, I talked to my dad, trusted in God, and changed my major--for the third time--to Office Administration.

I wasn’t so sure at the beginning of the semester with the typing classes and business classes, but I trusted that God would help me through it. And He did!

The Office Administration major is a unique program that prepares students to enter the business world with confidence and with thorough training in office procedures. It is so much more than just typing and staring at a computer screen! I have learned much about the computer and how to operate programs, but I also know how to take minutes for meetings, prepare presentation handouts, schedule appointments/meetings, and so much more.  I have had the opportunity to share many classes with the same classmates and with the same teachers. I have been able to connect on a deeper level with the people I share the classroom with because of this, and I greatly enjoy it.

Another aspect of this major that I enjoy is that I have the versatility in what career interests that I am able to pursue. I could choose to open my own coffee shop someday, I could become a receptionist at a veterinary hospital, or God could call me to the mission field to serve. No matter what path God has for my life, the Office Administration major at PCC is preparing me spiritually and academically to do His will.
