That Ocean-like Puddle

You know those days when “nothing” seems to go right? You accidentally slept past your alarm, dropped your books down the stairwell as you ran to your first hour class, finally made it outside to find out that it is raining, and since you were running late, you forgot your umbrella. We have all had those days; I personally think it just comes with the territory of being a college student. Well, what about those days when “everything” seems to go right? You wake up refreshed, the elevator is timed perfectly with your watch, the sun is shining bright, and because you were right on time for class, you had an extra moment to study for a quiz. Do you find that it is so much easier to praise the Lord when the day just flows and goes smoothly? Honestly, I do. For me, it is a breeze to thank the Lord when grades are good, the weather is nice, and everything seems perfect. However, those days when I fail a quiz, step in a puddle with my favorite shoes, and miss the elevator twice, it is a little harder to give thanks to the One who is Lord over all.

I never really thought twice about it and continued to have a lack of thankfulness until I read these verses the other day in my devotions: “It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most high: to shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night. . .For thou, LORD, hast made me glad through thy work; I will triumph in the works of thy hands.” (Ps. 92: 1,2, and 4) It doesn't say to give thanks to God just when things are going right; it says to sing praises unto His name. Sometimes, it may be difficult to have His song in your heart when you come across a rough day, but it is those days when we need Jesus the most. Run to Christ if you fail that test. Thank Him when the day is filled with sunshine outside. Reach for His hand when that puddle seems like an ocean. Bow your knee in thankfulness when you wake up on time. Whether your day is perfect or not, God is still watching out for you, and He will never let you down.

Being in college is awesome, and the experience is even more incredible when you can rest in the peace of knowing that Christ is with you every day. 🙂
