Little Checkmarks

I don’t know about you, but I love that feeling when you look at your past schedule and see all of the classes that you have completed. It doesn’t matter if you are upperclassmen or freshmen; it is still exciting to see those little checkmarks next to the classes that you have passed. Personally, I see each of those checkmarks as little reminders of God’s blessings in my life. But before we can all tackle what next semester brings us, I have to keep telling myself to focus on my last projects or on the remaining quizzes. One thing that was really an encouragement to me in the last few days of the semester was the times that we spent in prayer group.

Prayer group is a time that we set aside during the week to praise the Lord for what He has done for us, and to also lay our burdens on Him. I cannot tell you how many times that I have been down or discouraged and have come away from prayer group refreshed. Just having the opportunity to spend some time throughout the week with fellow believers and worship and praise Him is a huge encouragement to me. I can remember a few times my freshman year when I was really struggling with school, and prayer group was the one thing keeping me going. One of the things that we do in prayer group is keep track of all of the prayers that have been answered over a semester’s time. It is amazing to see all of the many ways that Christ has answered our prayers. From singing songs, to giving praises, and praying for each other, prayer group is always an encouragement and is kind of like a support system for busy college students.

I have talked with several alumni, and something that they have each said that they missed was prayer group. Once you graduate, you won’t have the blessing of being able to go to prayer group every night and sharing publicly what the Lord is doing in your life, so make the most of it now. Take advantage of this time slot that is set aside for Christ, and soak up the memories. Some ideas maybe for your prayer group are to make a prayer chain to keep track of answered prayers, have secret prayer sisters, or have praise nights to give the glory to God. Whatever you do, savor those times and thank the Lord for every moment.

“Trust ye in the Lord for ever: for in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength" (Is. 26:4).
