The Path of Life

Howdy! Kristen here, and if you can’t already tell, the great state of Texas is my home! I’m coming up on my last year here at Pensacola Christian College, studying the best major there is—Commercial Writing!

After being here these years, I can look back and see God’s hand on my life. As a potential student you may say, “I just don’t know what to do with my life.” Let me tell you that the best thing you could do as a Christian would be to give your life to the Lord! I am a living testimony to that!

As a senior in high school, the Lord called me to come to Pensacola Christian College. At first, I dreaded the thought of it. My sister was already attending, and I wanted to do something totally different. I wanted to do my own thing, I guess you could say. But, I finally surrendered to come.

Psalm 16:11 says, “Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fullness of joy, at thy right hand there are pleasures forevermore.”

The Lord laid out the map of my life and said, “Here, Kristen. This is your first stop. Pensacola Christian College. I want you to go there, and I want you to major in Commercial Writing.”

“Ok, God. I’ll go.” I went, a little timid at first and definitely unsure of what I was doing. But God took care of me.

During each day, each week, each month, each year, He has been right by my side, watching over me and telling me which turn to take next. Sometimes, when I get off track, He’ll get out my map again and show me. “No, Kristen. I don’t want you to go here. I want you to go there.”

This summer is living proof of His direction in my life. For weeks, I had no idea what I would be doing this summer. Would I be completing my writing internship? Staying to work at PCC? Going home? I had no idea. For a while, I thought I would be doing my internship. But God closed the doors and allowed me to stay here at PCC. I have a job that I love, new friends I enjoy, and the peace that I am in the right place.

As I follow my path of life that God maps out for me each day, I see His hand working in marvelous ways as He opens and shuts doors, answers prayers, leads, guides, and directs.

I couldn’t ask for anything more.

    Hi, Kristen!
Great post, by the way. I am going to be a freshman this fall, and I have been thinking about a Commercial Writing Major. So I was wondering what you took for a minor?

Oh, P.S. What was it like staying the summer?
What kind of job did you get?

      Hi Elysbeth…=>

I really enjoy my major…it was the one that God chose for me. I could never have chosen a better one. My minor has been marketing. It really gives me a window to the world of the business side of things. If I am to publish one day, I kinda need to know about all the business stuff and money, ya know? It’s a good choice.

Summers are a lot of fun at PCC. If you have the opportunity to stay the summer before your freshman year, DO IT!!!! You won’t regret it, I promise!! I have been here every summer since my freshman year. I’m a senior now, and it’s still fun. The jobs aren’t bad, either. For most of my time here, I have worked at A Beka Academy, working on the phones and training. This summer only, I have moved to the Distribution Center, which is a warehouse. I love the people there and the supervisors. So much fun! Again, I would encourage you to come down if you feel led. You won’t regret it, and it will help ease you into the swing of things. By the time your first semester starts, you’ll already feel like a pro! =>

    Kristen-

Keep following God’s plan for your life. Since graduating from PCC in December of 2004 God has worked wonderfully in my life. He led me to my first job out of college in the financial services industry, through my MBA and MS degrees and in the midst of the 2008 financial crisis he led me to where I am at now as a Director of a major healthcare company. I feel so blessed and humbled by His goodness and kindness to me. There were times were I questioned His direction but looking back now I can see His wisdom.

God Bless you as you wrap up your time at PCC this year. Enjoy it! It will go FAST.

    Best Regards,

    Dan Walsh ’04

      Dan,

Thanks for your words. They are much appreciated. I know that college life flies. Actually, I’ve found that my whole life is but a vapor, as the Bible says. Imagine that. I am trying to enjoy each day that I am given.

Best wishes to you as well as you continue to follow God and serve Him.
