You’ve Got To Be Kidding Me!
Had you asked me freshman year, last year, or even in September if I was going to attend graduate school, I would have told you “no,” until God got ahold of my heart. An announcement in chapel regarding graduate assistant availability got me listening to God.
When I scorned the announcement, He questioned me, “Why not graduate school?” This question caused me to take a major step back and evaluate why I was saying no to graduate school. Other than not wanting to go back to school, I didn’t really have any good reasons.
For many years, I have had the dream to start a Christian school. I realized I was making excuses by telling myself all I wanted to do was work in a Christian school office. The longer I had this dream, the stronger it became, and I discovered that it had to be coming from God.
By studying Educational Leadership here for graduate school, I will develop the skills needed to start and run a successful Christian school.
I felt peace as I prayed and when I talked to my parents, they were supportive. Also, I talked with a few of my friends who are already in the graduate assistant program. They said it was the best decision they had made.
I applied and waited in anticipation to be contacted about an interview. While waiting, I continued to pray and seek God. The peace remained, and the longer I waited, the more excited I became.
Finally, my interview was scheduled. As the interview came closer, I became nervous. To encourage myself, I kept saying that if this was something God wanted me to do, then He would guide my steps through the interview and evaluation period.
After the interview, I prayerfully waited to hear whether I was accepted or not. Before Christmas break, I received a letter in my mailbox offering me a contract for the graduate assistant program. I read through the contract, talked the details over with my dad, signed my contract, and turned it in the next day.
The graduate assistant program allows you to work for the school, and in exchange, they pay for your classes and even give you a monthly paycheck. The neat thing about this program is that you graduate not paying for your schooling and you’re debt free.
I look forward to what the Lord has in store for me. Even though I haven’t started the program yet, I highly encourage you to consider graduate school.
